Systems Developer
Why did you join?

I joined Highland Distillers in 1997 from the Department of Trade and Industry in London, where I was working as an industrial secondee on various IT Projects. Having completed almost three years there I was looking for opportunities back in Scotland.

I responded to an advert for a PC Support Analyst with Highland Distillers with the intention to gain valuable interview experience. However, I was so impressed with the standard and professionalism displayed by the staff I met, their pride in both the company and the brands that I was more than pleased to accept the position offered and look no further.

Why do you stay?

I have remained with the company since 1997 because of the opportunities I have been given to embrace new technologies and participate in valuable training to increase my depth of experience and knowledge and allow me to take on challenging new roles such as my present role as IT Systems Developer. When Edrington took over Highland Distillers in 1999, these opportunities increased still further.

What makes it different?

I believe what makes The Group different is the culture to allow employees at all levels to be involved in the decision-making process and feel they have an impact on what happens. This is recognised in various schemes including the "chairman's award" and "internal customer services awards".

The company sets aggressive goals and it is through excellent team working and commitment that these goals are met and rewards shared. We all have great pride in our company and our brands and are strongly committed to building the brands globally.
